"It's never too late to improve the quality of your life." So states the cover of a groundbreaking new book, Physiotraining™, a guide to health, fitness, physical therapy and post-injury pain management. Written by Cristiane Barbosa-Timoteo, Director of Clinical Education at Concorde Career Institute in Miramar, FL, the manual aspires to elevate the efficacy of today's personal training and fitness industry.

An active faculty member in Concorde's Physical Therapist Assistant program and certified weight trainer, Cristiane long ago began noticing the number of physical injuries in the personal training field were on the rise. "I observed that exercises are always ‘progressing,' but form and mechanics aren't. It's a paradox I've spent my entire life trying to decipher, and as my knowledge grew, the concept of Physiotraining began to take shape."

Her recently published book strives to inspire trainers to improve clinical applications and techniques of exercises, combinations of new exercises, and modifications of certain activities to decrease the risk of people reinjuring themselves when transitioning back to their regular lifestyles and activities. For example, a standard gym exercise can impact an individual with a history of lower back injury much differently than it would someone with no history of injury. Thus, such an exercise should be modified to be beneficial for both. Through Physiotraining, trainers learn to adapt techniques and modify exercises so everyone can achieve the level of fitness they seek without fear of injury or reinjury.

Barbosa-Timoteo spent 10 years developing and sharpening the theory and practice of Physiotraining, and her commitment serves as an inspiration to those fortunate enough to have her as an instructor. "To see my book available worldwide is a dream come true. All I wish is for our students to have their own legacy and pave their way to something bigger and better than themselves, as I have. It's a priceless experience."
